Ordo Xenos Update: Chaos as usual – Part 1

Warhammer 40K blog

Xenos have sunk their claws into any number of Imperial worlds across the Corvus Cluster.

TheGM: Occasionally, I like to summarize various story arcs within our narrative campaign. It helps me pull all the various subplots into a cohesive whole, so I (and followers) have a better overview of where the campaign is going.

I also enjoy writing these summaries because it sparks new ideas and reminds me to revisit story lines that have been overlooked for too long.

Below is the latest summary of the challenges facing the Inquisition’s Ordo Xenos and Her Ladyship Georgene Serillian;

Your Ladyship,

Enclosed is the 2,184-page Biannual Operational Analysis of ongoing xeno threats to the Corvus Cluster. As ordered, I include this summary, although I feel compelled to warn that the true nuance and horror of the xeno threat is poorly reflected by this pitifully short and criminally incomplete preface.—Lupin

Bengolarrea: Heretical cult still at large

The Cult of the Voidborn, once considered crushed on the world of Bengolarrea, appears to be active once more. Local Enforcers, working under an Edict of Obliteration h issued by your Ladyship, have raided two separate cult meetings in the past six months.

Followers of the Cult of the Voidborn have been painting their cult icon everywhere across the world of Bengolarrea.

The Cult of the Voidborn claims that a celestial being of great power is arriving from beyond the boundaries of the galaxy—and will embrace all the worlds of the Imperium under its magnificent rule. The symbol of the cult is a saw-spined wyrm-symbol.

Although one of thousands of heretical cults in surrounding sectors, this cult has drawn our attention due to a mention that cultists include mutations, including ridged foreheads and additional appendages. Such mutations have been found on several planets lately where evidence of Genestealer infestations exist. (See Morkai entry below.)

If true, this would suggest that a growing number of planets are victims of xeno infiltration. Some effort should be made to determine whether this hypothesis is correct, and what threat this poses.

Addendum: [No action at this time. This issue will be reassessed in one Terra year. Ensure any additional data is included in this file and update the file for this reassessment.—Serillian]

Eldar troops search the forests of Calypso. The motives of the xenos’ activity remains a mystery.

Calypso: Xeno raid still a mystery

Excavations and ground searches continue on the planet of Calypso, where a small Eldar military force landed recently in an isolated region of the planet.

Although the xenos’ 5,000 warriors abandoned the planet’s surface within days of their arrival, there is still nothing to indicate the purpose of their landing.

As learned only days after PDF troops occupied the landing site, the only notable evidence left by the xenos were several excavation digs that did little more than leave craters in the ground—and the more notable finding that the xenos broke into a previously unknown cavern system.

A search of the caverns has found nothing. There are no signs of any xeno ruins or evidence that anything of value stored in the caves. A team of Level 2 acolytes have joined with the Mechanicus to continue the investigation.

Cryillias: Research project ends

Research on the remains of Outpost Zero-Omega is no longer viable, and Magos Abnightus of the Mechanicus, has ordered a halt to the project.

Warhammer 40K blog

As a magi biologis, Magos Abnightus posseses some of the finest genetic scanners available in the Segmentum Ultima.

The outpost, which was overrun by xeno-tainted rebels, was destroyed in 739.M41. Since its destruction, Abnightus—at our request—has been comparing the genetic sequence of the rebels to those of misshapen heretics and rebels on a multiple of worlds.

It was his research that provided evidence that led to Acolyte Sarida Bex’s recent report that there is a Genestealer infestation on the desert world of Morkai.

Although Abnightus contends that there is nothing more to learn from the outpost’s genetic samples, he has agreed to continue to examine biological samples provided by the Ordo to determine if a xeno contamination exists. This is a resource that is likely to become increasingly important as we find new sources of Genestealer infestation.

Addendum: [Evidence of additional cults are reported on Sabado and Belliose III.]

Several years ago, the Dryillian Quarantine Zone was awash with Necron attack sites. Today, Necron activity appears limited to Myopolis.

Dryillian Quarantine Zone: All quiet

After the Necrons were forced off the Imperial world of Tophet (741.M41), the cybernetic xeno species has been surprisingly inactive within the quarantine zone.

Indeed, it appears that, with the exception of Myopolis [see separate entry], the Necrons appear to be avoiding provocations with Imperial forces. Two exceptions, however, are worthy of your attention:

• Squadron X-128, while on a patrol mission to the Perdide System, observed the passage of a small Necron voidcraft [Classification: Jackal-class Raider] through the system.

As you remember, the Necrons destroyed the small colony of Perdide in 742.M41. Since abandoned, the Imperial Navy occasionally visits the world in search of xeno activity. The momentary appearance of the Necron voidcraft could mean the xenos still have an interest in the ruined colony—or it is possible the xenos were simply passing through the system.

• The attempt to insert a stealth surveillance scanne rinto the Dryillian System has failed. Several years ago, an Inquisition vessel exited the Warp on the outer edges of system and launched the satellite, disguised as an asteroid, on a trajectory that would pass within 15 million kilometers of Dryillian IV.

Our acolytes returned to the outer part of the system earlier this year, positioning themselves to intercept the scanner after it passed the planet, swung around the system’s sun, and was flung back out into the outer edges of the system.

The scanner never reached its projected position, and it is assumed it was lost—either lost to a spacial phenomenon (ie. asteroid collission, solar flare, etc.)  or intercepted by the xenos.

At this time, it appears that all Necron resources are focused on Myopolis.
