The Great WH40k Terrain Challenge: 1. Communications Relay

It’s been a while since we’ve built up some new terrain. So to help ourselves out, we’re setting some goals. About every 10 days (two weekends) we want to finish up a small terrain project. Or work towards finishing up a larger piece (or both). We’ll be making the battlefield debris found on page 109 of the 7th edition rules. (Haven’t picked up 8th ed. yet.) Battlefield debris is difficult terrain. Unless otherwise stated , a model in cover behind difficult terrain has a 5+ cover save. In addition, some battlefield debris has additional rules.

First up: Comms Relay. A working comms relay can be crucial to the coordination of reserves, and therefore a swift victory. Any player with an un-engaged model within 2″ of a comms relay can re-roll Reserves rolls.

We put the parameters for the competition up on The Miniatures Page (TMP) boards. The Great Terrain ChallengeHopefully a couple of folks will join in.

I started gathering my materials and here is what we have so far.

We’ll get started with some planning and clean up some of the pieces.  Nine days to go. Plenty of time

Update for Friday, October 20, 2017

It’s been a busy week between work and rehearsals, but I plugged away at the project, even if it was only for 5 minutes each day. Even a few small tasks add up to real progress. Tonight, I finished priming and spray painting parts beige. The black bits will get a metallic drybrush. I managed to dry-fit everything together so tomorrow morning, once all the paint has a chance to dry, I should be able to assemble it fully and do some washes and highlights.
